The pride of Puerto Rico, El Humilde has dropped jaws in the world of import drag racing in a big way. How does a 6.38 at 222 mph unhinge your choppers? The purpose-built Toyota AE86 Corolla could be the world’s quickest import. It flexes a heavily boosted Supra 2JZ that is said to generate around 2,000 horsepower so the car has the credentials.
The muscular Yota is sponsored by Kings Performance and Medero Performance, was built by Lazcano Racing and tuned and driven by Oso Tech. The 2JZ pumps out 2,000 horsepower and is controlled via a MicroTech ECU.The car is a long-established 6-second performer. It hit a bump in the road, and hit the wall, in May 2013 but was revived and came back to the track stronger than ever, running a 6.44 at 221 at the Fall Finals at Englishtown in October 2013.
Fast forward to November 26th, 2014 at famed Salinas Speedway in Puerto Rico and the Corolla was primed to pound the record books. The historic run breaks down like this…
60-foot 1.069-seconds
330 foot 2.810-seconds
1/8-mile 4.192-seconds
1000-foot 5.377-seconds
¼-mile 6.381-seconds
Speed 222.04 mph
