The Mission Foods NHRA Drag Racing Series rolls to Sonoma Raceway to finish the 2025 Western Swing. Tony Stewart Racing drivers Tony Stewart and Matt Hagan are heading into the DENSO NHRA Sonoma Nationals presented by PowerEdge from different ends of the spectrum. Stewart wants to forget what happened in Seattle, while Hagan wants to keep the momentum he found at Pacific Raceways Going.
A Rebound Weekend At Sonoma For Stewart
After an early exit at the Northwest Nationals, Stewart wants to find his groove again with a solid performance in wine country. Stewart has done well in the past at Sonoma behind the wheel of a NASCAR. He’s ready to bring those winning ways to his Top Fuel dragster career.
“We’ve kind of been in a unique situation the last couple of years of going to facilities that have multiple tracks. Las Vegas was the first one that we were able to conquer all the tracks on that property, and obviously Sonoma is one of my favorite NASCAR tracks on the schedule. Having the opportunity to win there in the Cup car and now having an opportunity to win on the drag strip would be really cool for us to be able to knock a win down. It’s always been one of my favorite places to come race, and I just love coming to Sonoma. Hopefully we can celebrate on Sunday in a little different victory lane celebration and different location on the racetrack, but at the same time, still get that feeling of what it’s like to conquer at Sonoma,” Stewart explains.
Hagan Ready To Build On Seattle Win At Sonoma
Sometimes a little time off is good for the soul. Hagan’s Funny Car team really took that to heart, and it showed at Pacific Raceways after the team picked up the win. Now, Hagan and his crew have some great momentum rolling into Sonoma, and they’re planning to make a run deep into eliminations on Sunday.
“Sonoma has always been a tricky track for us. Mike Knudsen (crew chief) is really coming into his own in the last couple of races. We have a great opportunity to keep this momentum going. It would be great to get the wine goblin at the end of the weekend. We just have to keep pushing and digging, and I need to have good lights, and we’ll end up being where we need to be. It seems like (Ron) Capps wins a lot at Sonoma, so it would be great to be able to get one. I love racing him, and our history goes way back. He’s heads up, and we race hard. We had a super close race against him in Seattle in the Final. There’s a lot of great competition out there, so we’ll keep pushing hard,” Hagan says.
Both Stewart and Hagan want to leave the Western Swing on a high note. The Sonoma event will give Stewart the chance to regain the points lead and keep his regular season points championship hopes alive. For Hagan, a strong weekend at Sonoma could be the catalyst for a late-season championship run.
