Street Car Star: Casey Rance Wins Big In LSX-Powered Nissan 240SX

Putting up a streak of dominating wins at the track takes a skilled racer who knows their car well, and understands how to be the picture of consistency each round. Texas native Casey Rance went on an absolute tear during the 2016 No Prep racing season in the True Street-style classes by being ultra consistent and getting down the track no matter how tricky the conditions were. For 2017 he has his goals set even higher and the boost cranked up on his nasty LSX-powered Nissan 240sx.

The 1995 Nissan that Rance pilots wasn’t his first choice, but the car has been brutally effective at the track.

“This 240sx wasn’t my dream car, it was purchased to be used as a tool at the track. No Prep was becoming popular and with zero experience racing on it, I didn’t know what to expect using this car. Like with all great stories this car has grown on me and done well,” Rance says.

Rance’s Nissan has seen its share of track time, including a stint running Drag Week. Powering the car is a potent 408 cubic-inch motor from Texas Speed and Performance. The motor uses a TSP crankshaft, TSP billet connecting rods, and Weisco pistons for a rotating assembly. A set of PRC 247cc heads and carbureted-style intake manifold bring the boosted air into the motor. “The motor is really a very basic build with off-the-shelf parts anyone can buy from Texas Speed, including an off-the-shelf Precision turbo with an air-to-air intercooler,” Rance says.

That basic combo allowed Rance spent the better part of last season running roughshod over the True Street fields at just about every No Prep event he entered. “In 2016 I won 11 events starting with American Outlaws Live, Outlaw Armageddon, Lone Star Resurrection, and some local 10.5 events as well. Then, at the Winter Meltdown in Edinburg, I was able to win two classes at the same event. Since I have a reliable combination that can make 9-13 passes in a night, I was able to enter and win both classes,” Rance explains.

That level of success is almost unheard-of in the No Prep world unless your name is Birdman, but Rance has no plans to settle for one good year. This season he plans on continuing his winning ways at any No Prep event he enters. “I have yet to win a Redemption event, so that’s at the top of my list for 2017.  I also want to hit every race possible, and I would like to double-up on my win totals 2017. Last season was a textbook year for me — I enjoy looking back at the highlights and big races with so many amazing cars that I got to run against,” Rance says.

This level of success in the No Prep world takes a lot of effort and assistance, and Rance is quick to thank those who have been there for him. “Chris Shortridge who has been just a phone call away all year at every race and many hours in between. Jason and Trevor of Texas Speed for having any possible part available, or quickly getting me any part I wanted. I’m also really thankful for my biggest fans, my mom and my grandma, who stay awake at all hours watching me on the live feeds!”

One thing is for sure, Rance has set the bar pretty high for himself in 2017, but his performances have shown he shouldn’t have any issues reaching his goals. So, if you see his boosted Nissan roll up to the line at a No Prep event make sure you’re paying attention, because he’s about to put on a show.
