At Rockingham Dragway, Swanfest: King of the Track returned with some big names ready to cash in. Manny Buginga, Carlos Sanchez, Travis Harvey, Ryan McCain, and more were all in the hunt, each bringing cars capable of ending your night in a hurry. No numbers, no boards, just win lights. You didn’t know how fast they went, which kept the mysterious, all-or-nothing underground culture of No Time racing alive.

Mother Nature tried to throw a wrench into the program, forcing the weekend into a one-day shootout on Friday, but that only turned up the intensity. Thursday night was packed with testing and grudge racing to prepare and set the tone for the heads-up competition ahead. With grudge races putting thousands of dollars on the line, the stakes were high from the very beginning.

By Friday, the track was downright lethal. The prep was so aggressive that it was pulling shoes clean off feet on the starting line, including my own (rookie mistake, I know). That level of prep delivered bumper-dragging wheelies and violent launches, complete with flames shooting out of bullhorns higher than the roof of the car, just another reminder of why they’ll always be visually superior to zoomies, and anything else for that matter.

The lineup backed it up. With dual power adders allowed and rules kept to a minimum in Extreme 275 and Pro 275, it was a recipe for an action-packed night filled with a variety of builds and combinations you don’t see as often these days.

At the top of the heap was Extreme 275, where $20,000 was on the line, and every round was anyone’s guess, or bet as to who would cross the stripe first. On the sidelines, hands were shaking, and cash was flying, with fans calling out their picks as engines roared to life in the water box.

When it was all said and done, Manny Buginga blasted his way through the field to lock down the payday, defeating Carlos Sanchez in a close final round.

Beyond the payouts and the passes, Swanfest reinforced the heartbeat of No Time racing: trust your setup, talk your trash, and back it up, and let the win light drop the hammer.
