TJ Kasper has been on quite a roll since the pages of the calendar turned to July, collecting two wins on back-to-back weekends at Maryland’s Cecil County Dragway in his twin turbocharged, Proline-powered Ford Mustang.
The younger Kasper opened the month July 2nd, where a previously uncontested final round from June was contested during qualifying, pairing Kasper with Steve Gorman. Kasper blasted right down broadway in his Neal Chance Racing Converters-equipped Mustang to the tune of a 4.43 at 180 MPH, while Gorman spun the tires and slowed to a 6.28. TJ would later qualify second for the July 2nd race, with father Tom Kasper just behind in third. TJ and Tom both advanced to the third round, where age and experience paid off as father eliminated son to advance to the final, where Larry Wood captured an easy win on the elder Kasper’s red light.
The Gil Christie Motorsports team returned to Cecil County on Saturday for the Pritchett Brothers’ Ultimate Outlaw Shootout, where TJ blasted to top speed of the event in his opening round defeat of Lou Sciortino with a 4.39 at 186.46 MPH. Victories over Billy Gordon and Michael Martin placed Kasper in the final alongside the immaculate ’67 Mustang of Jason Enos. In an exciting drag race, TJ sawed the tree down on Enos, with his 4.30 at 179.68 besting a quicker 4.28 at 184.17 on a holeshot. The margin at the stripe was just .05 second.
