When the B1 Racing team decided to field two cars for the ADRL Pro Extreme class at the Bristol Spring Drags, April 20-21, they needed not look any further than the highly experienced and highly acclaimed Tommy Mauney. Mauney was an extraordinary recommendation from B1 Racing crew chief, Rick Hickman. Mauney
will be piloting the teams’ 1969 Chevrolet Camaro alongside of Joshua Hernandez and the B1 Racing Corvette, both owned by Sheikh Abdulla bin Hamad Al Khalifa. Mauney’s career includes several event wins and championships in Pro Modified and Pro Stock classes for the IHRA. Tommy was also the first Top Sportsman racer to win a national event with nitrous.

“I want to thank Sheikh Abdulla bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Rick and all the B1 Racing crew for this opportunity. It’s a big honor to get to race in Bristol. I love that place. I raced my first national event at Bristol in 1974, finishing as a runner-up to Roy Johnson,” Mauney said.

Mauney is very energized about becoming of member of the B1 Racing team and racing on a track as prestigious as Bristol – also considered his “home” track.

“It’s an awesome, awesome track, one of the most beautiful ones out there, and I really do appreciate them asking me to race. It tickles me to death to get to run in Bristol.”

Mauney gained some experience in the B1 Camaro last season at the ADRL’s Dragstock event in Rockingham, where he qualified in the 12th spot with a 3.75. One interesting thing to note: Mauney was given absolutely zero time behind the wheel, and zero run time with this car. This field turned out to be the third quickest in the history of the ADRL.

“The car showed a lot of promise in Rockingham and I hope we can run better than that in Bristol,” Mauney said. “I just want to do my job and hopefully do well for the B1 Racing team.”

Mauney was knocked out in the first round of eliminations at The Rock, but with more seat time Mauney will certainly feel more confident behind the wheel of the B1 Racing Camaro.
