Video: Alex Shows Goes Up, Up, Up At Outlaw Street Car Reunion

This past weekend at the Outlaw Street Car Reunion: Battle Of The States event held at Memphis International Raceway, all sorts of interesting things happened, not the least of which was this immense wheelstand by Alex Shows in the Outlaw Drag Radial class. The race, put on by Memphis track manager Tyler Crossnoe’s TC Productions, turned out the baddest of the bad in Outlaw Drag Radial and X275 to take their shot at the great Memphis International Raceway track surface.

Shows, based out of Mendenhall, Mississippi, competes with a 632-cube big-block Chevrolet engine that relies on help from an Induction Solutions-built nitrous system stuffed between the framerails of his 1996 Mustang.

During the insane third qualifying session, Shows lined up next to DeWayne Mills in his 481X-powered ’68 Camaro and unleashed this awesome wheelstand, in the process busting up the underside of the car good enough that he was unable to make the first round of competition on Sunday.

The car came up almost immediately, and even though Shows pedaled the car, the nose only dropped for a tick, then went right back up again, sending him hard on the bumper and ultimately into the other lane before crashing back to earth and wrecking the underside. Luckily, that extra tick of time allowed Mills to continue to power down the track and get out of the way – in the process clipping off a sweet 4.21 at over 173 MPH.

In an internal discussion here at Dragzine last week, we debated whether anyone would break into the 4.0 range on the radial tires, and although nobody did it, a number of competitors – including Shows – gave it everything they had. As you can clearly see here. We’ll have more video later in the week showing off some of the other accomplishments of the weekend.

Thanks to Curtis Reese Jr. for the video clip.
