Video: Awesome Wheelstanding Ride In Quain Stott’s Classic Gasser

stottThere a few forms of race cars from any era in our sport cooler than Gassers. Short wheelbase, big horsepower, high center of gravity, straight front axles, a completely unique stance, and a whole lot of excitement. Sadly, these cars experienced their heyday back in the formative years of the sport and died off much too young, but thanks to a number of diehard souls around the country and across the world, a strong contingent of the classic cars still exist, wow’ing crowds at nostalgia events from coast to coast.

One such individual, Pro Modified veteran Quain Stott, is among those keeping the Gasser spirit alive. Last year, Stott put the finishing touches on his wicked-cool 1941 Willys known as The Executioner and debuted it to much fanfare. The car, built as period-correct as Stott could make it, paid homage to the Gassers that Stott recalled from his youth when he attended events at the Greer and Spartanburg strips in his native state of South Carolina. We shared some pretty cool in-car footage from Stott’s debut last season, but it paled in comparison to this awesome new footage taken recently at Greer during the track’s Nostalgic Gasser Race.

In the clip from aboard The Executioner, you get to ride along with Stott, epic patriotic helmet, gas mask, skull ornament and all, as he gets the revs up in the beam, dumps the clutch, and powers into an awesome wheelstand. After the initial touch-down, the nose continues to bounce, but Stott never flinches, grabbing gears and sawing at the wheel all the way to the stripe. This is drag racing in its purest and most exciting form, and even though Stott’s other ride is a 250 mph state-of-the-art doorslammer, we’re willing to bet it isn’t as fun a ride as this!
