Much has been written about John Stanley’s record-setting ’68 Camaro of late after becoming the world’s quickest doorslammer, even right here on Dragzine, and now we have a chance – thanks to Davis Technologies‘ sweet video – to dig into some of the details on how Stanley was able to run so quick at the recent Street Car Super Nationals in Las Vegas to end the 2013 season with an incredible 5.644-second blast, and back it up.
We heard about Davis’ new Profiler system just before Stanley’s big outing and got our first look at the 2013 PRI Show, and with this video, Davis Technologies proprietor Shannon Davis shows the system in action. Of course, the best part is having the opportunity to check out each and every one of Stanley’s runs from SCSN, but the added bonus of learning about the Profiler and how it’s going to revolutionize the classes where it’s legal makes all nine minutes and two seconds of this video worth watching.
As we reported from PRI, the Profiler system allows you to import the data from past runs that can subsequently be adjusted manually to plot a profile (thus the product’s name) of performance. From there, the software gives two upper and two lower ranges that the user can select to base the profile from for the next run. The device will then add and remove horsepower based on the driveshaft speed during the subsequent run, achieving horsepower control to a level never seen before.
The entire point of the Profiler is to allow the tuner to control the horsepower to a very fine level. As you can see, it does exactly that on the Stanley machine, allowing tuner Camp Stanley to empower driver John to make quick and repeatable passes, over and over again.
We were lucky enough to be there to see these runs in person. Mike Maggio, the only other Pro Mod racer to ever run in the 5.60’s, achieved the feat over SCSN weekend also with the Profiler’s help. As Camp Stanley says, “Can I say badass on this video? ‘Cause it’s badass, it’s bad to the bone. It does exactly what you tell it to do.”
Check out the video – you won’t be sorry.
