NHRA Top Alcohol Funny Car racer Doug Gordon walked away from a violent, high-speed crash during the opening round of eliminations at the NHRA Lucas Oil Nationals at Brainerd International Raceway Saturday. Gordon, from Paso Robles, California, was racing alongside Shane Westerfield and had just dropped a close 5.51 to 5.56 contest when he lost control of his machine and darted across the racetrack, turning onto his roof and striking the guardrail with incredible force. NHRA.tv footage from the top end showed structural damage to the roll cage in the aftermath, but thankfully, Gordon climbed from the wreckage and will race another day.
