Video: Ebrahim Kanoo’s Killer New Lexus IS-F Race Car

k1Just about anything can be made into a race car with a good dose of imagination, hard work, and some money. That said, modern luxury cars are not something you typically see on a drag strip – taking something that is better suited for a nice trip to the country club and making it into a small-tire, quarter mile wrecking machine is what the spirit of drag racing is all about.

Ebrahim Kanoo Racing out of Bahrain has built the world’s quickest import with their six-second Toyota Supra, but now they’ve followed it up in building a twin-turbo V8 Lexus ISF that’s going to be scary after its sorted out.

The Lexus IS series of cars are four door sedans that have some pretty nice features. These cars are stuffed to the brim with technology and comfort from the factory, and you can pick one up off the show room that comes with two wheel drive, all wheel drive, a V6, or in the IS-F trim with the big V8 under the hood. The Lexus IS platform has done some track time in road racing form with endurance and Super GT class podium finishes, so operating in race form isn’t entirely a new thing for the Lexus brand.

k2Going road racing is really not something the Kanoo team has on the agenda – they like to go real fast in a straight line and do it in style. This time around they’ve started with a stock Lexus IS-F chassis and built a truly unique race car. To help propel this car deep into the single digit range, a Pat Musi 649 cubic inch motor is strapped between the frame rails, with a pair of Pro Mod-spec twin turbos sitting up front to feed big boost to the motor.

Our friends at Turbosmart USA were tabbed to help with the boost end of the combination, and with a pair of large turbos feeding into a big-inch bullet, it takes some stout  components designed for such duty to get the job done. The end results is a setup that includes Turbosmart’s 60mm, external Power-Gate wastegates and the high-flowing Raceport Blow-Off Valves, designed specifically for high horsepower, large capacity turbo combinations, just like this one.

A Turbo 400 transmission takes on all that power and sends it to the back tires, and keeping everything in check is a MoTec M150 being tuned by none other than Shane Tecklenburg. The video gives some great shots of the build quality, and a short shakedown pass.
