In a recent editorial column here on Dragzine we shared with you how drag racing is, in itself, at the very core of everything that we do at Power Automedia. We’re all drag racers in some way, shape, or form, we have company drag strip outings, and the straight-line sport is intertwined with each specific magazine genre on a near-daily basis. We don’t want to come out and say that a love for drag racing is a requirement for the job, but if you don’t, you just might be the odd man (or woman) out.
Power Automedia, the parent company of Dragzine, StangTV, and six other enthusiast online magazines, is set to launch it’s ninth digital publication in August, entitled EngineLabs. As the name implies, this digital magazine will target the hardcore enthusiast with in-depth tech, product features, complete engine build-up’s, and much more.
To man the ship, we’ve brought aboard veteran automotive journalist Mike Magda as Editor of EngineLabs, and Madga, like the rest of us, boasts a lifelong love of the great sport of drag racing. Want proof?
The video you see featured above was shot by Magda at the 1970 AHRA Winternationals at the Beeline Dragway in Arizona on his father’s 8mm movie camera. Little could Maga have known at the time how incredible, how memorable that footage would become 40 years later. To look back and see the heyday of drag racing, with some the most legendary drivers behind the wheel of some of the most iconic racing machines on one of the sports’ truly historic quarter miles. Footage like this is absolutely timeless, high definition video and stereo audio or not.
Magda, who has also attended Frank Hawley’s School of Drag Racing, will certainly drop some references to his drag racing experiences when EngineLabs goes live and the engine builds begin, so keep your browsers peeled to the launch of our newest online magazine!
