Video: ETS Crushes The GT-R Record While Nearly Crashing!

At TX2K17 in Houston, Texas back in March, Gidi Chamdi made history when he drove his AMS Alpha G into the GT-R record books, becoming the first to smash into the six-second zone in the iconic Nissan. Chamdi’s 6.937-second pass at 196 mph made him an instant legend, but it also created a new target for GT-R racers to shoot for. And last weekend, Lucas English took aim at the record and shot it out of the sky, not once, but twice, behind the wheel of the Extreme Turbo Systems (ETS) GT-R with a 6.88 blast.

Trying to become the first GT-R to record a six-second pass had become somewhat of an arms race during 2016 and the early part of 2017, with individuals and shops dumping huge piles of cash into their cars to try and run the magic number. ETS added a billet block to their Nissan along with upgraded intake manifolds, Precision Turbo & Engine snails and a host of other upgrades to assist the car in producing nearly 3,000 horsepower. To help the 3,800-pound car harness all that power, ETS added their own suspension package to get it down the track as efficiently as possible.

The ETS team loaded up their GT-R and went to the Nostalgia Hot Rod Series test and tune at Woodburn Dragstrip in Oregon to put some laps in on their machine and take advantage of the conditions to reclaim the record. English used the first pass to see how much grip the track had, and that led to a 7.29-second lap at over 187 mph. For the second pass, the big boy tune-up was put in the all-wheel-drive drive monster that led to a 6.91 pass at 195 mph, during which English had his hands full and had to dump the laundry at the top end to help save the way-wards car.

Most would be pumped they just smashed a record and left well enough alone, but not the ETS Team. They decided to let the track come around a bit more and then put the wood to it again with some outstanding results. On the third pass ETS smashed their own record when the GT-R laid down an insane 6.88-second pass at almost 223 mph, with a 1.208 60-foot.

Check out the video from That Racing Channel that documents all the passes and shows off how badass of a driver Lucas English is to keep this car from smacking the wall!
