Just as the domestic-based doorslammer records have been under a constant barrage in recent seasons, so too have the records for import, sport compact vehicles, as competitors around the country and even around the world have battled for the ultimate performance supremacy with their six-bangers, four-bangers, rotaries, and the like. and last week, that record fell at the hands of an American driver behind the controls of a state-of-the-art, Middle East-based racing machine.

Gary White, who became a virtual household name in drag racing circles as he battled tooth and nail in the ADRL’s popular Extreme 10.5 division at the wheel of Titan Motorsports’ awesome six cylinder-powered Scion, snatched away the all-time import drag racing record at the Bahrain International Circuit driving the turbocharged Supra of Bahrain native and automotive sales magnate Ebrahim Kanoo, blasting to a 6.237 at 227.7 MPH (366.57 km/h).

When Kanoo’s machine was built back in 2011, the mission was to create the quickest, fastest, and most advanced import racing vehicle on the planet, and as we all saw through the documented build by the Titan Motorsports gang, if any car fit that bill, it was this one.

The Kanoo Racing Supra, built upon an Outlaw 10.5-style chassis and riding ona set of 10.5W’s, is powered by a turbocharged Toyota 2JZ inline six-cylinder engine that’s finessed by noted tuner Shane Tecklenburg and backed with a Liberty 5-speed manual transmission with a three-disc clutch. Titan’s in-house chassis fabricator, Tim Takash, crafted the gorgeous machine that literally left no stone unturned in its construction.

On the record lap, White was 1.07 to sixty-feet, 2.78 to the 330-foot clocks, 4.10 at 185 MPH to half track, on his way to the stunning 6.23 at the 1/4-mile boards.
