Video: Golf Cart Rips Off World Record 12-Second ET At 118 MPH!

A while back, we found a video of a pretty wildly modified golf cart that put so much power down it flipped on its lid. Well today, another insane greens cruiser popped up on the radar blasting down the track to the tune of almost 120 MPH.

event pictures 027Plum Quick Motors is responsible for this innocuous looking cart that will give any modern V8 sports car far more than it wants through the 1/4. PQ’s Robby Steen educated us a bit on the world of “Did that scoreboard really say 118 MPH?!” golf carting. Robby says that while conventional dyno numbers and electric drivetrains don’t produce “normal” results, that this cart would likely produce around 200 horsepower on a chassis dyno with “a ton” of torque.

This particular cart, dubbed Bandit by the PQ team, maintains around 90% of it’s stock build, with the only significant difference being in the Black Ops motor, batteries, high-speed gearing, and upgraded brakes. Oh, and there’s the 80 pounds of ballast built into the front bumper to help keep the nose on the asphalt under power.

Screen Shot 2014-11-05 at 2.24.48 PMBandit utilizes custom Lithium Ion batteries, and Steen says on this pass down the famed Darlington tarmac, the batteries were only at 85% of their potential output because, “[we] couldn’t keep the cart on the track at full power!” If you listen closely, you can hear a couple of instances of tire slip where the pilot – quite a brave fella, given he’s piloting a cart intended to cruise around the retirement home at 15 MPH to triple-digit speeds –tries to put the pedal to the floor, causing traction loss at speed. Let that sink in…downtrack traction issues, on a golf cart.

Robby stated quite confidently that they will go faster, stating that Plum Quick is seeking sponsorship now to fund a project that runs in the 9’s in the 1/4 at over 140 MPH. That cart will, understandably, be modified for safety and stability at such speeds. Modified or not, the notion of a golf cart ripping off 9-second ET’s at over 140 MPH is electrifying!
