Kyle Heuttel has a thing for 1969 Camaros, so when it came time for the Bad 9er racing team to enter the X275 ranks, there was no other choice of car – it was in none other than a gorgeous ’69 Camaro. Jason Michalak was tapped to assume the role in the driver’s seat, and the team has had a measure of success in X275 so far.

The rest of the racers in the class never stop testing or innovating, and the Bad 9er team stepped up to the plate in a test session on November 6th at Houston Motorsports Park to run a sweet, straight-as-a-string 4.67 at 151 MPH on the first eighth-mile hit.

The Bad 9er X275 machine uses a Texas Racing Engines-built, 588 cubic inch Chevrolet engine ingesting plenty of giggle gas – and as you can see here, once it’s all-in, it’s all-in.

You can sneak up on the tuneup a little bit, but in order to be successful in the competitive X275 class you have to be ready to lay it on the line, right off the line, and Michalak gaveit his all. 

The second run of the test session ended the night prematurely when Michalak went on a bumper-dragging expedition and somehow managed to keep the car from flipping onto its lid, although we suspect that’s more coincidence than anything else. The pucker factor on this run had to be turned up to 11.

Reports we have indicate that the oil pan and the rear of the car need to be repaired, but everything else has been deemed OK after a close inspection by Huettel, Michalak, and the rest of the team.
