Video: Johnny Quick Nearly Takes Out Payso’s Camera In Crash At 131

Grudge racing is a big deal. Countless sums of money are invested, big-dollar races set up, and the cars and stars are part of a culture all their own. This past weekend at U.S. 131 Motorsports Park in Martin, Michigan, Slouch Productions put on the Midwest Grudge Nationals, and many of the grudge racing world’s biggest players were on-site. All last week leading up to the event, our Facebook feed was full of pictures from racers thrashing to get finished in time for the event.

Which brings us to this video of none other than Michigan grudge racer Johnny “Quick” Kramer’s PRE-built Mustang lined up against the bad-fast “Team SVO” car of Ted Slusarczyk and Erin Cheffer. One of the things that’s unique about grudge racing is that it’s all on the line, all the time — you don’t get to line up and qualify to work the bugs out of your machine before race day. No matter the amount that’s up for grabs, you have to be ready to go when the tree goes green.

Around 100 feet out, Quick drifts left and taps the wall, then gets crossed up and the car makes a violent move across the track, and hammers straight into the right side wall, nose first. The guys from Payso Productions have included slo-mo footage complete with slo-mo audio.

The insane noises the car makes upon impact, then eerie silence as it drifts across the track and then another impact — those are the sounds you never want to hear, as a racer or as a spectator.

Quick has a couple of fractures in his back and other bumps and bruises, not including the ones on the car, but he’ll live to race another day.

Also, the videographer hung in there like a champ when Quick was coming his way and straight into the wall. Insane video, and a case of the video guy being in the right place at the right time. It takes a lot of stones to hang in there in a situation like this when your life is in danger.

There’s a telephone conversation with Johnny about halfway through the video, and all we can say is that it’s good to hear his voice as this one could have been much worse. He’s already talking about building a new car. You can’t keep a good racer down.

Thanks to Payso Productions for the video!
