Video: Kenjo Kelley Goes For A Wild Ride At Street Outlaws Race

Kenjo Kelley has become one of the best No Prep racers in the game, and his 1998 Mustang known as the “King Of Boost” has put many racers on the trailer all over the country in a number of classes and organizations. Kelley’s reputation earned him a spot at the recent taping of a Street Outlaws filming, where he was going rounds and looked like the man to beat. In the semifinals though, things went terribly wrong for Kelley as his Mustang hit the wall hard at the top-end.

Kelley was slicing and dicing his way through the Small Tire field at this event when he squared off against Chris Hamilton aka BoostedGT in what would be a very close matchup. Both cars left hard and were on a good pass according to Kelley.

“The race was so close. He was on radials and the track was really good up front, so he got out on me and I chased him down and got the win. I did see the win light, but had to ask someone to make sure because I had a pretty wild ride.”

To avoid making the crash worse Kelley had to do some quick thinking so he wouldn’t hit Boosted’s Mustang.

“We did get pretty close, for sure. I had to hit the brakes instead of trying to drive out of it so I wouldn’t hit him. No one ever wants to crash, much less take out someone else at the same time,” Kelley says.

The 1998 Mustang might look bad, but Kelley plans on repairing it and putting a new body over the chassis at some point. The plan now is to run his Fox-body Mustang while his new car is being built.

“The new car will be 2015 mustang double framerail car and it will also have a 481x Stage 4 from Pro Line. This car is purposely being built with big tires to take on the Street Outlaw racers,” Kelley explains.

Check out this footage from the National No Prep Racing Association that shows just how close this race was, and then how close Kelley came to collecting BoostedGT when it all went South.
