Limited Drag Radial competitor Joe Wallace took his Camaro for an unexpected 360-degree spin at the Outlaw Street Car Reunion in Memphis a couple of weeks ago. Wallace’s nitrous-huffing, 615-inch big-block launched hard, but abruptly lost traction, which sent the Gilbertsville, Kentucky racer hard right into the opposing lane. In the video itself, there are tell-tale signs to indicate what happened to cause the skid.
Wallace’s hot rod appears to be on its way to giving Isaac Preston’s turbocharged Camaro a heck of a race before losing traction. Based on the visible nitrous flames, it looks like the nitrous system may have kicked on the second system – likely a much bigger kit than what the car launches with – at the exact same time the tires break loose. You can see the flames, followed immediately by puffs of smoke, indicating that Wallace had lifted his foot out of the throttle very quickly upon feeling the tires break loose. However, with the nitrous kicking in at the same time the tires lost their hold on the track, the rpm’s likely soared, and the rear tires spun freely, meaning Joe was little more than a passenger at that point.
However, the quick-thinking Wallace was determined to protect his ride if at all possible, and jumped all over the brake pedal, doing so quickly enough to halt the skid a few feet from the opposite retaining wall, keeping the swoopy Camaro scratch-free. In fact, the car doesn’t even go dead and Joe is able to idle down the track and return to his pits under power. Obviously, this isn’t how Joe wanted this race to go, but given the insane ride he took, it’s safe to say he’s happy with the outcome. Thanks to Urban Hillbilly Videos for the excellent footage of his wild ride!
