Nostalgia AA/FC racer Matt Bynum escaped serious injury in a hair-raising accident during pre-race testing for the annual March Meet at the Auto Club Famoso Raceway in Bakersfield, California on Thursday.
Bynum, driving the Matthews Motorsports “Nitro Nick” Chevrolet Camaro on its very first pass of the season, drifted out of the groove and lost control of his machine near the finish line, crossing the centerline as he tried to collect the car and eventually rolling onto his roof at high speed in a harrowing scene. Bynum’s car briefly made contact with the guardrail as it rolled onto its roof at over 200 mph, ultimately turning back onto all fours and rolling to a stop in the shutdown area.
