Englishman Tom Armitage and his crafty crew that have made themselves internationally famous with their insanely awesome, pint-sized Postman Pat Van that’s been terrorizing strips over in the United Kingdom and has been featured several times here on Dragzine, are at it again with another one-off creation: this time a miniature front-engine, slingshot dragster powered by a Kawasaki ZX9R motorcycle engine.
Like the former coin-operated Postman Pat Van, Armitage and company have emphasized size — or lack thereof — once again with the design of the new dragster, which is roughly the length of a junior dragster and is actually small enough to have the Postman Pat body mounted over the cage for a throwback “coupe” look. The Kawasaki motor, originally rated at 141 horsepower with its 899cc, four-stroke, 4-cylinder design, is mounted sideways in the car in a “sidewinder” configuration, with a very sleek set of sportsman dragster-style headers that give the car more of a drag racing-esque look.
The team began their project late last year and recently rolled the dragster out in the roadway for its first running test and launch, with plans to debut it this coming weekend. Armitage and company have gone out of their way to make this piece as retro as possible, with the old school front and rear wheels, fabricated and polished fuel tank, the stitched leather seat cover, and more. And it’s topped off with a cool-as-it-gets open face helmet, complete with a gas mask and goggles, straight out of the 1960’s.
Considering the car probably weighs around 300 pounds (or perhaps) less and with close to 150 horsepower on tap, the pint-sized slingshot should really hurt some feelings, just as its sibling, the Postman Past Van, has done, having laid waste to Mustangs, and Porsche’s, and all sorts of much more powerful iron.
We’ll have video and details of the dragsters’ debut outing as soon as its available next week, so stay tuned for more!
