Hans Pierre, Jr from Free Life Films gets around, and in this context it’s not a bad thing. The newly-hitched Pierre caught this footage of Andy Johnson’s ProCharger-motivated Pro Outlaw dragster going upstairs. Diggers such as Johnson’s don’t usually get up in the air, or at least try not to. This reminds us of “Big Daddy” Don Garlits’ famous wheelstand-turned-blowever in the 80’s, except Big Daddy didn’t lift (why would ‘ya lift?), sending the car into a 12-o’clock wheelie, and crashing back onto all four in the wrong direction. Fortunately for Johnson, he didn’t repeat Big Daddy’s antics. Johnson was able to gather it up and keep it off the wall.
Unlike most dragsters, Johnson uses a BBC combination with a ProCharger, and a belt-driven one at that. Johnson put his ride in the air at the recent Snowbird Nationals at Bradenton Motorsports Park in December of last year. Because he had to pedal the car, Johnson lost the battle — albeit still clicking off a stout 4.08 — but since he didn’t do any damage to the car, we’d say he won the war.
