Back in the day before its demise, the National Street Car Association’s premier all-motor class was Hot Street, populated by racers like the one in this video – Rick Moroso. Yes, that Rick Moroso, he of Moroso Performance Parts. At that time, Rick was campaigning this awesome Corvette, featuring a 363 cubic-inch small-block Chevrolet engine worked to within an inch of its life. The car had a four-link suspension, 31″ x 10.5″ slicks, a single carburetor, and a short set of wheelie bars to race at 3,000 pounds, while a set of 5.83’s were used in the 9-inch rear to provide motivation.
The final segment of video shows Moroso setting a record in the class, which at that time was 8.65 at 151 MPH. Similar cars today would be something like those used in NMCA Pro Stock, or Milan Dragway’s All Motor class, and even those have been using larger-cube engines than this one for years. It’s a shame to see this class (and series) gone, but it’s also nice to reminisce about the days gone by. Many of the cars and stars from the old NSCA are still around, competing in places like the NMCA and other sanctioning bodies.
This video dates from 2004 at No Problem Raceway in Belle Rose, LA, when the NSCA was still around and Moroso was campaigning this car on a regular basis. Rick was out testing the parts and pieces made by his company on his own personal vehicle, and that trend continues today as it has through the history of Moroso, the company started by his father, Dick, over 45 years ago.
