Ever wonder what it’s like to take a ride in the quickest turbocharged doorslammer in all the land and the fastest full-bodied vehicle (in the eighth-mile) in the known universe? Needless to say, it’s really quick, and with only 660 feet to cover, it’s also over, really quick.
Eric Dillard and the El General Racing gang kept up their torrid pace at the PDRA’s inaugural Georgia Drags over the weekend, held at the always-fast South Georgia Motorsports Park, and while busy going toe-to-toe with the big, bad screw-blown cars in the Pro Extreme class, they were also filming all the action from the inside the cockpit of the Pro Line Racing 481X-powered ’68 Camaro, giving them much-needed footage for feedback purposes and us one exhilarating ride to enjoy later from the cozy confines of our couches.
After his world-beating performance at the PDRA opener last month in Rockingham, where the El General machine cranked off a 3.56 at a stunning 221 miles per hour, one might say we’ve all become a bit spoiled by the big numbers this team has been putting up with impressive consistency, making their 3.64 at 217 and change in Georgia a ‘ho hum’ kind of run on the surface. But when you take into account the conditions they were running in, you understand these guys were flat puttin’ it down.
As it turns out, the ride from aboard the El General Camaro, at least from the vantage point of the camera, isn’t quite as violent as it is outside the car, although Dillard, strapped into the seat and with 4,000 horsepower under his right foot, just might beg to differ.
