Thanks to the technology utilized by Diamond P Sports and ESPN over the years, camera angles aboard a Top Fuel Dragster or Funny Car – even footage transmitted live – is nothing new or cutting edge. But in the famous words of a realtor, the difference between a typical video and a really unique interesting one is about location, location, location.
Part-time NHRA Top Fuel competitor and Missouri native Scott Palmer, who cut his teeth racing at the Ozark Raceway Park in Rogersville, Missouri early on in his career, makes it a point to return to his roots each season by making a few exhibition hits at the eighth-mile strip. And during last weekend’s Street Machine Nationals, Palmer and team were in attendance as part of the action-packed weekend event.
During one of Palmer’s passes down the Ozark eighth-mile, a GoPro camera was mounted to the forward wing strut, providing an excellent vantage point in this 500 foot blast that’s made all the better by the location: a dark, local eight-mile drag strip that signifies a small reminder of yesteryear, where one could find nitro at any number of small town dragstrips. And for those curious, Palmer clicked off a 3.42 elapsed time at a coasting 211 MPH.
