One year ago, California native Roger Holder stole the show at the annual Street Car Super Nationals in Las Vegas behind the wheel of his twin-turbocharged Chevrolet Camaro when he recorded the quickest and fastest 1/4-mile 315 Drag Radial run in history (by more than two tenths of a second) with an absurd 6.12 at 244 mph. Now, twelve months later, Holder has one-upped himself at the very same race, as he laid down an out-of-this-world 6.075 at 226.09 mph during qualifying.
Holders’ record-setting run wasn’t a complete walk in the park, though, as things went from perfection to hair-raising in a hurry. As the Camaro went through the traps, Holder threw the parachutes only to have both chutes, the cord, pack, mount, and all break free from the car. Fortunately, Holder was on the ball and brought the car to a safe stop in spite of the rare failure.
Holder went an impressive 4.037-seconds at 197.68 mph to the 1/8-mile (also a career best) on the big run, and paired it with a 1.117 short time and a 5.121 to 1,000-feet to set the new radial tire standard that all others will be measured against.
