If there’s anything that proves how badass drag racing still is, it’s the wild bunch of racers that run the AA/Fuel Altered class. These drivers, like their counterparts in the 1960 and 70s, are still true outlaws, competing at match races across the country and putting on a killer show anywhere they go.
Sean Belt and the crew of the Metal Mafia AA/FA barnstorm all over with their 1934 Ford 5-window coupe that’s rocking a big-block Chevy and as much nitro as Belt can cram in it. By Fuel Altered racing standards, Belt and his team are a bit different, since they’re running a traditional big-block that’s not billet, but rather very similar to a production block. Running on a privateer budget, the Metal Mafia team makes the most of their time at the track running match races along with other booked-in Fuel Altered events.
This footage from Urban Hillbilly Videos at the Ozark Raceway Park captures just how old school Belt and his team are, from their warm up throttle rips in the pits, the classic back up girl, to the dry hops before each pass. The first pass is a rather easy A-to-B lap to help the crew get the car dialed-in and ready for combat later. On the second pass, Belt gets after it a bit more, and his fire-breathing Ford went into tire shake, got out of shape, and caused an aborted run.
On the third lap, Belt was able to go right down Broadway with the candles lit and throwing some serious gorilla flames all the way to the stripe. Would you try to pilot one of these wild rides?
