Video: The Fastest 10.5W Doorslammer Pass In History

The all-time 10.5W tire elapsed time record may belong to American racer Brad Brand, but those wild and crazy Aussies are now the rightful owners of the fastest speed ever recorded on a set of W’s. And while they may have come up just a hair short in the other end of the record, they’ve put the world on notice that they’re coming after it.
moitsThe Moits Racing team, with Paul Mouhayet at the wheel, recently clicked off a succession of the fastest passes ever recorded on a set of 33-inch, 10.5W tires on the teams twin-turbo Mustang at the Sydney Dragway in Sydney, Australia, exceeding 250 MPH and finally culminating in a stunning 5.990-second blast at a record 252.95 MPH. The five-second run itself was the result of months of hard work put in by the Moits crew, as they steadily progressed through the low six-second zone into the 6.0’s before lighting the boards with the magical “five”.

The elapsed time record still belongs to Brand, a veteran doorslammer racer, who clicked off an unreal 5.94 at just 234 MPH from his twin-turbo Mustang two years ago at the Street Car Super Nationals VII in Las Vegas.

The Moits Racing machine is a 2004 Ford Mustang built in the United States by Skinny Kid Race Cars, featuring power from an Alan Johnson 481X powerplant with a pair of twin Precision turbochargers and a BigStuff3 EFI setup. The driveline consists of a two-speed Turbo 400 automatic transmission maintained by Als Race Glides.

While the Moits Mustang is classified as an Outlaw 10.5 car in Australia, it differs from what we know as Outlaw 10.5 in the United States, as it’s a lightweight (said to be around 2,600 lbs.), full tube chassis car that’s more in line with the types of cars that inhabited the former ADRL Extreme 10.5 category. Regardless of the rules, however, the Moits teams’ feat is an incredible accomplishment and probably isn’t the last we’ve heard of their hard-charging Mustang this year.
