Following Dan Millen’s devastating and bracket like 3.8-second laps last season and a 3.78 best from his screw-blown setup, one would consider any other combination in Extreme 10.5 to be well-browned toast. If that’s the case, however, the other guys are certainly going down swinging.

2008 NMCA Nostalgia Pro Street champ Jim Widener has teamed up with renowned engine builder and longtime racer Tony Bischoff at BES Racing Engines for a new racing effort in 2011 that will include both ADRL Extreme 10.5 and NMCA’s elite Pro Street division. Doing so is going to require much more of a bullet than that which formerly powered Widener’s Fox body, and for that, he and Bischoff have developed a monstrous new 865 cubic inch HEMI-headed powerplant that recently took a spin on the BES dyno.

The new bullet is destined to huff the laughing gas, but for this initial dyno pull, it was strictly naturally aspirated to see just how much grunt this beast has on its own merits. And grunt it has: to the tune of an eye-opening 1,783 horsepower and 1,232 ft/lbs of torque at 7,600 RPM. Once the sauce is poured to it, this thing ought to catch some attention from the boosted camp. As we understand it at the time of publishing, Widener will be campaigning the rebuilt Mercury Cougar that took a ride on its roof in St. Louis two years ago with Bischoff at the wheel.
