Sunday followed suit with great weather for the final day of racing in Orlando this weekend. Thanks to the the folks at Fuel Air Spark Technology, Dragzine will be in the house to bring you all the action, the news, notes, results, and photos!
Heavy Street saw Joseph Hatfill easily advance to round two to meet Devin Yankey who faced a close match with Chris Brown’s GTO, winning with an 8.16 over Brown’s 8.17. Both Pro Fab cars also made it through where they faced off with each other. Justin Jordan in the TT MPR built Coyote vs Tim Hafke’s Schmidt Racing Engines nitrous huffing big Chevy.
Jordan would get the win in a close match with a 7.52 to Hafke’s personal best 7.66. Gino Bia earned a win on reaction time over Felix Garcia who had some trouble on the line. His best of weekend 7.21 at 202 took a hard loos to Bia’s 7.83 at 178 MPH. Charles Hull, Rick Prospiero and John Townsend moved on tow round two as well.
Rick Prospero met with Justin Jordan in the Heavy Street final putting up a .022 reaction time to Jordan’s .033 making a race of it. Prospero had a performance advantage all day and the final was no exception as he rolled through the lights with a 7.31 at 188 MPH, enough to stay out front and earn the win over Jordan’s new personal best 7.44 at 186 MPH.
Round one of Pro Mod saw Kevin Fiscus and Adam Flamholc have single runs and advance. Canadian racer Wes Goodard put a .007 light on Kristian Nystrom and scoring a win with a 5.94 at 251. Nystrom didn’t get a clean run and slowed to a 7.54.
Janis advanced with a 6.03 and woul face Glidden in round two who had lane choice after his hole shot win over Jeff Lutz. A .002 light and 5.99 at 227 beat the worlds fastest street cars 5.97 at 248.
Going into the semi finals Flamholc was paired with Mike Janis scoring a .007 light against the American veteran racer. The ET’s were identical at the 330 mark with the cars basically locked together, side by side down track. The boards lit up for Flamholc with the winning 5.823 at 244.78 to Janis’ 5.822 at 244.92 MPH, a .0311 margin of victory.
On the other side of the ladder Fiscus had dispatched with Chuck Mohn and a bye to the final to meet Flamholc who was a bit aggressive and struck the tires early while Fiscus motored on to his third OWSN win in a row with a 5.808 at 253 MPH.
In Outlaw X 632 round one action Mike Murphy and Mike Schmidt had a close race with just .002 ET separating difference and Schmidt coming away with the hole shot win to face Troy Blake in round two. Robert Sellers had a single over a missing Dillon Voss and Jim Aldus going 4.74 at 151 over Alex Padilla. Bobby Hollingsworth, John Pluchino and John Tyler also advanced to round two. Blake moved on to the semi finals over Schmidt to face Robert Sellers in one of the Ensslin Racing entries.
Johnny Pluchino and Troy Blake wound up in the OL X 632 final with Pluchino earning the win on a hole shot with a pair of 4.422 ET’s on the board.
Limited Drag Radial had eight cars in the new class this weekend with Frank Mewshaw and Don Lamana the top two qualifiers. Broken cars was the order of the day for this class with three racers missing round one sending Mewshaw, Prospero and Lamana to the semis uncontested. Tony Ridenour faced off with Scott Husted with both racers have traction issues. Ridenour would advance to meet Lamana who took the win with a 4.54 at 168 to a 4.71 at 174 MPH and a date with Frank Mewshaw in the final.
Frank Meshaw took the win in the LDR Final over Don Lamana who performed well in the teams second event with the new build out of Pro Fab. Meshaw runs out of TRZ Motorsports with Nelson Competition Engines and ATF Speed transmissions on board.
Chris Lancaster came out swinging setting low ET in round one with a 4.87 over Ken Pellicciotti’s 66 Nova. Clifford Connolly met with number eight qualifier Walter Drakeford taking a hole shot win with a .040 reaction to Drakeford’s .090., 4.998 over a 4.983.
Brian Keep advanced to round two to meet up with Troy Pirez who would move on to the semi finals. Tony Alm and Ari Birchfield advanced to face each other in round two. Birchfield earned the win on the tree.
Semi final action saw Wade Tharpe advance over Birchfield to face off with Chris Lancaster in the finals with Lancaster taking the event win.
Charles Hull had the earned bye as top qualifier in Street Outlaw putting up a 4.55 at 168 MPH. He would face Kirk Hatley in round two. Eric Leeper put a 4.82 at agaisnt Kenny Anderson scoring a win and a bye to the semi finals.
Dean Vallese advanced over Danny Hanchen to face off with Robert Friend who upset Eric Kenward who slowed to a 5.91, Freidns 5.69 won the round. Vallese would advance to the finals on a semi final bye to face Charles Hull who took out Eric Leeper onhis side of the ladder. One there Vallese was outgunned by Hull’s turbocharged Mustang with Hull earning the event win.
Charles Hull took the win in Street Outlaw’s first year at the 23rd annual Orlando World Street Nationals scoring another win for team KBX.
Outlaw 10.5 vs Pro Drag Radial ran separately till the finals with six cars in each class. John Carinci showed he meant business on his first round single 4.065 at 192 as Phil Sliskovic was a no show giving Carinci a bye to the finals. Spencer Hyde rolled a 4.36 against Alex Ramirez advancing to meet Wild Bill Devine’s stick shifted Bullsye Turbo Mustang. Hyde took a hole shot win over Devine meeting the finals with fellow Canadian racer Johnny Carinci who would advance to meet with Jeff Miller, the winner of the radial side of the ladder.
For his efforts Miller rolled out to a 4.12 to beat Ziff Hudson off pace 4.30 in round one. Bill Mitchell scored a 3.98 at 192 in his round one win over Nate Miskulin. He would have a semi final bye before meeting his fate against Miller.
Canadian racer John Carinci would take the over all win in the class running a weekend best 4.02 after waiting on Miller in the lanes for a few minutes. Miller ran anotehr 4.12 for his efforts in a great final round. It’s been a while so the slick tire guys should savor this one while they can.Top Sportsman came down to Bruce thrift and Piel Roja who were dialed a 4.10 and a 5.09 respectively. Thrift came away with the win over a foul start from Roja.
Saturday is starting off with overcast skies and a nice cool morning. Several racers are scoring personal best runs including Kevin Fiscus, who will be looking to back up his 5,72 at 260 for an official track record. The Fast Chassis Race Shop tire rotator is fairly new here at Orlando and one of two for the Ozzy Moya stable of Florida tracks.Charles Hull is looking for 4.20’s this weekend in Street Outlaw trim, a Change from his usual X275 set up. He is sporting a 98 MM turbo and 100 less pounds in the car and qualified number one in class. We caught up with him this morning adding a few pounds to the front of the car.Tim Baptista is out with a new twin turbo combo after campaigning the car with blown alcohol engine and has been sitting out for just about 5 years. His son Tim Jr. is installing new tires on the car this morning. The turbo piping was done at Jason Enos’ Victory Racecraft. Jeff Lutz is assisting with dialing in the tuneup.Christian Damgaar is here all the way from Denmark with his 1971 Impala. The came to compete in Drag Week with a 630 ci nitrous huffing big Chevy. Engine management is from an Electromitive with a 4L80e trans. So far in the us Christian has put five thousand miles on the car and drove to Orlando with is from Ohio.
Round 2 Qualifying Results
Mike Janis was unable to improve on last night 5.81 at 244 and sits second in Pro Mod.Jeff Lutz lowered the fastest street car record to a 5.85 at 250 in round two of Pro Mod.Rick Prospiero leads Heavy Street after two rounds with a 7.29 at 189 MPH using a big Chevy fed by twin turbos in the little RX7.Bruce Thrift arrived here late last night and went straight to number one in Top Sportsman with a 4.14 at 173 MPH. Several other racers improved as well with the top five cars unchanged but a little shuffle of the order.Harry Martinez was pushed down to sixth in Top Sportsman. He did improve his perforamnce slightly from a 4.58 to a 4.53.Limited Drag Radial grew to seven cars today with Don Lamana going A to B in the Pro Fab Performance Plus Mustang. This is the second race for the team’s new car with. Lamana managed a 4.74 at 162.Quite a few cars in Ultra Street struggled with the surface as the sun came out heating the surface. Mike Shake N Bake Wacaser made his first pass today landing ninth in class.Bradenton Ultra Street 2016 Champion Troy Pirez Jr. arrived today but was unable to stick the car and sits outside the field at twenty second.Alex Padilla sits third in OutlawX 632 with an improved 4.54 at 156 for the Miam, Florida based racer.Ensslin Racing brought several cars here this weekend with Bobby Hollingsworth landing fifth with a nice 4.55.Robert Sellers is in yet another Ensslin Racing Trans AM scoring third place in OLX 632 with a 4.49 at 158 MPH.Jeff Miller joined the OL 0.5 vs Pro Radial class today landing fifth with a 4.13 at 186.John Carinci and the crew got the Corvette all back together and ready for round two qualifying. They waited most of Friday for new rings to arrive. He put down a 4.14 to earn sixth spot rolling on 10.5 slicks.
Final Qualifying Results
Joseph Hatfill moved up from third spot to number one qualifier in Heavy Street in the final session from a 7.328 to a 7.250 at 196.33 MPH.The qualifying order of Pro Mod remained unchanged except for Adam Flamholc who advanced from fourth to second with another personal best run dipping into the 4.70’s with a 4.786 at 238 MPH, just short of his earlier 244 MPH in round three.Scott Wingust took over the Top Sportsman number one qualifier in his supercharged1970 Camaro from Bruce Thrift with both racers improving their numbers. Wingust from his 4.26 at 177 to a 4.09 at 181 while Thrift improved .041 to a 4.108.Stanley Albritton in running his 2002 in Top Sportsman in normally aspirated trim this weekend getting a new combo worked out in preparation for Outlaw 632 in 2017 He qualified seventeenth.Johnny Lee Hollis Sr improved his ET to a 4.78, also running an NA combo, this one from Reher Morrison. Johnny is partners in the car with his brother Mike. The car was formerly in the El General racing Stable and The Shaft Boys had teh car about a year before Johnny scored a Wally in Reynolds, Georgia three years ago. We are rockin and rolling here in Orlando thisafternoon with qualifying set to run at four, we are just waiting for the cars testing to run out the lanes. Here Ari Birchfield rides out a wheelie in Enrique Perez’ Ultra Street Mustang.Outlaw 632 racer Mike Oldhan runs this 37 Ford built from Suncoast Race Cars in the class with a Voss Engineering 632 big Chevy. The car sees occasional street duty and is equipped with dual funny car cages for that extra layer of passenger safety.Jeff Lutz in the house with the Evil Twin Worlds Fastest Street Car scoring a 5.87 at 251 MPH in last nights test session.Jerico Balduff ran well in testing with a 5.89 in his Janis powered Willy’s.Jordan Perofrmance owner Justin Jordan scored a personal best last night with a 7.60 at 184 MPH and is running Heavy Street this weekend. Justin is fresh off an NMRA Turbo Coyote and FL2K Street Car Shootout wins with his MBRP sponsored ride. He runs an MPR built Coyote engine with a Hellion Twin Turbo Kit and runs out of the Pro Fab Performance Plus shop in Port Richey, Florida.
We stopped by John Carinci's pits and spoke with tuner Jason Lee from PTP. Carinci had quite the backfire last night blowing the the intake manifold apart and a hole right through the hood in the process. Teardown found a folded over top ring in the engine but no serious damage. A new piston for that cylinder and new rings all around will have the engine fixed right up. A big thanks to Jeff Lutz for making the repairs to the intake.
Kevin Fiscus will be driving the FKR Pro Mod this weekend with Josh Klugger in their record setting Drag Radial Mustang. The Team FKR Radial Mustang is the world record holder with a string of 5.9X passes and a win at the Import vs Domestic World Cup Finals at MIR. The Radial vs 10.5 class will be one to watch this weekend. The cars will run separately depending on tire till the finals where the top two will face off against each other for 10K. Billy Glidden is here this weekend as usual. He finished tenth on the year in NHRA Pro Mod running driving some events early in the season in Harry Hruska’s Precision Turbo Pro Mod Camaro.
Round One Qualifying Results
Kevin "Flash" Fiscus took back the Pro Mod Track Record from Tricky Rickie Smith which was set at the 2015 OWSN running a 7.727 at 160.46 MPH for both ends of the record. Adam Flamholc landed third in Pro Mod behind Mike Janis with a 5.88 at 242 MPH. His team mate Kristian Nystrom sits ninth in the field with an easy 6.41 at 204.Gino Bia put his 72 Cuda in second position in Heavy Street running a 7.80 at 165 MPH behind Joseph Hatfill’s Orlando based 1790 Camaro.Lil Bull is mid pack in Heavy Street with his Pumkin orange blown Camaro, a long time crowd favorite here at Orlando.Mike Pruss earned number one qualifier in Top Sportsman with a 4.39 at 158. That number will likely drop tomorrow for the top cars. The class runs on a dial so that’s not a significant advantage in once in eliminations.Some good cars are entered in Limited Drag Radial but no one got down the track in this session. Frank Meshaw is first with a 5.76.Limited Drag Radial racer Scott Husted had a close call after getting lose on his attempt. Looked like the rear tires were skipping some, not quite into shake and kicked the rear to the left. he got into a slide and spun nearly 180 degrees before tapping the wall with the edge on the nose. That’ll buff out.Right after Husted’s incident Ev Bernardo broke something putting a line of fluid from just past the 330 down track.Chris Lancaster put his Panhandle Performance 93 Fox on the pole in Ultra Street with a 4.81 at 148 MPH.Brian Keep was paired up with ODRC class winner Mike Freeman in Ultra Street qualifying. He rode out this whee lstand dragging sparks near 200 feet before setting it down. He landed tenth with Freeman running a 4,86 at 145 for third place.Erik Kenward, 2016 NMCA Xtreme Street Champion is here running Street Outlaw this weekend which uses the NMCA/NMRA rules package here at the OWSN. He run a single turbo small block Chevy from TNT Race Engines. He landed third in class with a 4.87 at 145. Charles Hull leads with a 4.39 with Dean Vallese in second with the Zombie Wagon.ODRC winner Troy Blake leads Outlaw 632 with a 4.42 at 164 after one session with twenty-two cars attempting to qualify.Jeff Ennslin got the better of Mike Oldham in an all 37 coupe OL 632 battle running a 4.659, good for sixth. Oldham is down in tenth with a 4.90.Barry Mitchell leads the Outlaw 10.5 vs Pro Radial class with a 3.91 at 192. He pedaled the car once early on the run.Ziff Hudson put his single turbo 90 Mustang in the threes scoring a personal best and single turbo record 3.965 at 193.38.Stratford Ontario Based Spencer Hyde is the top qualified OL 10.5 car and is based out of Stratford Ontario, Canada. Hyde has campaigned the car on 10.5 for about a year with this 4.15 at 179 being a personal best ET.Chad Opaleski is sporting a new three speed TH 400 from Steve Cannizio at CRT Transmissions. He landed fourth with a 4.12, his first full A to B hit since the installation. What amounts to like four attempts.
