Mickey Thompson Tires Monday Morning Race Report
NMCA: Race Recap from Milan. Chris Rini powered to his third win of the season in Pro Street as the NMCA trail made the penultimate stop on the schedule at the Milan Dragway in Michigan, defeating first-time finalist Jim Widener in the money round. Tim Essick, who rebounded from a crash earlier this summer to remain in title contention, scored a big win over reigning champ Mike Murillo in Super Street 10.5W, as did Dave Beeson in Nostalgia Pro Street as he collected his second straight win hot off his first victory in Bowling Green. Also highlighting the winners podium was 275 Drag Radial champ Sean Ashe, who downed Dan Kroll for his first ever victory in the NMCA. For more coverage from Milan, visit NMCA Digital.
NHRA Division 3: Rich McPhillips was able to hold off perennial favorite Bill Reichert in the Top Alcohol Dragster final at the NHRA North Central division finale at the Beech Bend Raceway Park in Bowling Green, Ky., 5.53 to a 5.54. Likewise in Top Alcohol Funny Car, Todd Veney was able to overcome Mickey Ferro’s holeshot in the final — his 5.67 enough to handle Ferro’s 5.74. In Competition Eliminator, Brian Browell was the benefactor of mechanical woes for David Rampy, as he cruised to victory while Rampy stumbled and slowed. NHRA Division 5: Persistent rain that hampered qualifying on Friday returned to the Heartland Park Topeka in Kansas on Sunday, forcing officials to postpone the event until Thursday, Sept. 6 at Tri-State Raceway. Sidnei Frigo led Top Alcohol Dragster qualifying with a nice 5.39, while Tony Bartone did likewise in Top Alcohol Funny Car with his 5.64. For details on qualifying and the rescheduled eliminations, log on to NHRADiv5.com.
IHRA Division 1: Kansas wasn’t the only part of the country affected by weather, as the IHRA Division 1 event at the Maryland International Raceway was forced to be called after rains, a nearby tornado, and an apparent lightning strike to the timing tower. IHRA and MIR officials will be announcing the next course of action in the coming days on IHRA.com.
MIROCK: Rodney Williford’s 7.02 in the Pro Street finale was enough to overcome the holeshot advantage of Joey Gladstone and his 7.13 for the victory at the MIRock event at the Rockingham Dragway in North Carolina. Ronald Procopio took Pro Modified honors with a 4.14-second defeat of Billy Vose, and Johnny Dobrin just edged out the quicker-leaving Jeremy Teasley in Real Street, 7.76 to 7.85.
