Contrary to the popular saying, in the case of the Mountain Motor Pro Stock Association, no news may not actually be good news. While the new racing season is already in full swing and the spring season officially upon us, the MMPSA has yet to release a schedule or any news related to their sophomore season as an independently run organization. Sources indicate that this season is currently in a holding pattern while negotiations continue with racers in order to compose a solid field of cars with full racer support before making commitments to race tracks.
The MMPSA was formed last season by the racers and for the racers when the class’ longtime home in the IHRA abruptly ended at the conclusion of the 2008 season. A five race season was put together that would coexist with the ADRL schedule to allow its racers to compete in both series without conflict.
Cary Goforth was victorious in the first unsanctioned MMPSA event in Rockingham last April after wading through a field of 15 strong mountain motored doorslammers, and at seasons end was crowned the first “King of the Mountain” MMPSA chanpion. The series also put on national events in Martin, Michigan, Budds Creek, Maryland, Englishtown, New Jersey, and Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Discussions are said to be ongoing with both the racers and interested race venues in order to present a 2011 racing season, and we here at DRAGZINE look forward to seeing the series back on the track where it belongs.
