imageAs those watching on from around the world fully expected, those competing in the Arabian Drag Racing League in the nation of Qatar this winter have been absolutely annihilating the record books over the last five weeks. The big numbers on the boards at the Qatar Racing Club have been a byproduct of lots of testing, a world-class, all-concrete racing surface, excellent air conditions, and a lineup of the baddest doorslammers in the world being commanded by the top tuners and drivers in the business. And the Q80 Racing team, led by Sheikh Duaij Fahad Al-Sabah, has been right at the heart of it all.

image 2Q80’s Abdullah Al Shatti bettered the series’ Super Street class record that was previously set by popular American driver ‘Stevie Fast’ Jackson in testing this week, driving the team’s Fox body Mustang to a 4.294 at a booming 188.99 MPH in the eighth-mile on a set of 29 x 10.5-inch slicks, bettering the previous mark by a mere .001-seconds.

Al Shatti’s mount, an ’89 model Mustang with a 25.2 chassis, was built by Coast Chassis Design in Edgewater, Florida, and is powered by a monstrous 632 cubic inch big block Ford bullet prepared in the states by Anthony DiSomma Racing Engines, sporting a pair of 94mm Pro Mod turbochargers. All that horsepower is harnessed by the one and only Steve Petty (who also wrenched Q80’s Pro Extreme Camaro into the record books last week) and is backed by a Rossler transmission and ProTorque converter.. Al Shatti Hi Performance completed all the fabrication and wiring work on the car.

Al Shatti scored his first victory of the season last week in round four of the Arabian Drag Racing League season, running a 4.370 in the final round of the Super Street 8 class to defeat Jassim Al Muqahwi.
