Veteran journeyman Top Fuel and Funny Car driver Tommy Johnson Jr. has found a new home for the 2011 racing season, and once again he’ll be taking his driving talents abroad as he tackles the FIA European Tour, which kicks off May 27-30 with the FIA Main Event at the Santa Pod Raceway.

Denmark’s Andersen Racing team has announced that Johnson Jr. will pilot their Top Fuel Dragster, owned by tuned by brothers Karsten and Per Andersen in the FIA Series, with backing from sponsors Sunoco, Landmeco, Else Marie, Veidec, Teslak Transport, DOL sensors, HAC Art Paint, ABC Skilte, and Motovario.

At the Santa Pod opener one year ago, the Andersen machine powered it’s way to a European record of 4.57 seconds at 320 miles per hour on the asphalt quarter mile, and with Johnson at the wheel and a well-prepared crew and stock of parts for the new year, the Andersen’s are expecting great things to kick off the new year once again.

A native of Ottawa, Iowa, the well-liked Johnson Jr. has 10 career wins in 27 final round appearances in NHRA competition, with two in Top Fuel, seven in Funny Car, and one in Top Alcohol Funny Car. He most recently raced in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates behind the wheel of the Don Schumacher-owned Yas Marina Circuit Top Fuel Dragster.
