In just over two weeks, the gearhead nation will be introduced to the newest stars in the Street Outlaws franchise when Street Outlaws: New Orleans debuts on the Discovery Channel. While the original 405 crew films for their upcoming season, the production will focus on the only group of racers to field a car that consistently outruns the number one guy on the OKC Top 10 list. Anchored by Kye Kelley’s “Shocker” Camaro, the New Orleans street racers will race into our living rooms in the familiar 8 p.m. time slot on Monday nights, starting February 22nd.
[2]One of the main players from the 601-based group will be the insanely clean 1971 Maverick owned and piloted by New Orleans’ own Bobby “Lil Legend” Ducote. Ducote’s slick little Ford is powered by a healthy Yates-headed 458 cubic-inch small-block Ford built by Greg Brown Racing Engines in Lumberton Mississippi. The beefy small block features Wiseco Pistons, Total Seal rings, and a sizable Williams Carburetors Dominator carb. Brown also shares tuning duties with Bobby, and is listed as one of a trio of crew chiefs alongside Ray Jordan and Kye Kelley.
The powerplant is assisted by a healthy shot of Induction Solutions [3] nitrous and relies on a PTC Torque Converters powerglide and converter to send the power rearward to a Chrysler 8 3/4″ rear. The 3.90 gearset spins 40 spline axles, which are bolted to Billet Specialties [4] wheels.
Ducote decided to go with the small-tire combination, and has built a solid reputation in that arena, having outrun a number of big-tire cars as well as a slew of small-tire hot rods along the way. While he may be outgunned by Kelley’s infamous Camaro, Bobby expects to hold a lofty spot on the New Orleans Top 10 list and certainly should be the top-ranked car among his small-tire brethren. Bobby wanted to thank Brown, Kelley and Jordan, along with his support crewmen, Trevin Peak, Aaron Hatten, Jeremiah Johnson, Kipp Castine, Ryan Manual, and “Big Nick” for keeping the car up and running and ready to race.
