JPC Racing Runs the First 10-Second Pass in a 2011 Mustang – Video Inside

It was an inevitable race when the 2011 Mustang was first released. A time game ensued that pushed shops and aftermarket manufactures alike into monumental, record breaking competitions. The first and most obvious battle is the quarter mile test. While Evolution Performance was the first to claim the 11s, JPC racing made history with the first 10 second pass last night. I called up JPC Racing and talked to Factory Stock champion and JPC employee Tommy Godfrey about the pass.

JPC got their 2011 GT Tuesday evening from the dealership. From there it went directly back to the shop and right onto the dyno – what a great way to break in a new vehicle. Stock they were able to push right at 350 RWHP on on the Mustang. From there they concentrated their time on the rear end – 4.56:1 gears, 31 spline axles with C-clip eliminators, and a spool. Looking around the shop to see what else they could put on the ‘Stang, they came across an old Bassani 3″ X-pipe and 2.5″ race mufflers – while retaining the stock catalytic converters. “We couldn’t even get a K&N filter in it, the local places were out of them,” said Godfrey.

Fast forward to the half way point for the real action

With the new-found bolt-ons in place, they managed to pick up some power, now netting 372hp to the rear wheels. “We even had a few aluminum driveshafts lying around that we tried to swap in, but the new transmission design on the Mustang’s are shorter, making the stock driveshafts longer than normal,” Godfrey explained. The last modifications were a set of upper and lower control arms and a 100 shot fogger nitrous kit. At the end of the day they managed to net a 430hp goal on the chassis dyno.

Twenty four hours after getting their Mustang from the dealership, the JPC crew was on their way to MIR with a fresh set of 28×10 slicks. After a few motor passes and soft nitrous hits with Justin Burcham behind the wheel, they decided to go for a full nitrous pass. Revs up, clutch out, and the Mustang rocketed to a 1.467 60 foot time, nearly nudging into the 6s in the eighth with a 7.004 pass and ending up at the 1320 stripe with a 10.969 @ 125.75 mph. It is hard to tell from the video so I asked Tommy if the wheels were up and he smirked “Oh yeah.”

Keep an eye out on JPC as their next goal is to be the first 10 second All Motor 2011 Mustang GT.
