Lewis and Van Raden Nearing Debut in Outlaw Radial and X275

The fast growing Outlaw Drag Radial, X275, and grudge racing scene will soon have yet another player in the mix, as Randy Van Raden of Stafford, Virginia is in the process of putting the finishing touches on his Fox Body Mustang, to be driven former Outlaw 10.5 racer Tim Lewis.

The car will receive power from an SB2 small block built by Anthony Disommas’ Disomma Racing Engines with two nitrous foggers and twin JTS carburetors atop a cast tunnel ram intake manifold. The 25.2 spec chassis was completed by fellow Outlaw Radial and 10.5 competitor Ev Bernardo at EB3 Motorsports.Lewis indicated that, given his weight, the car will most likely come up pretty light on the scales.

“We’ll actually have to add weight when we run 275, so Randy may very well drive in that class, because he’s 270 lbs and I’m 160, so we won’t have to add an extra 100 in the car that the driver will make up, Lewis says”

Once the team hits the track, it will mark Lewis’ first time behind the wheel since 2007 and the first that he’s driven for someone other than himself since 2005, when he drove a nitrous-assisted Pro Modified for Thomas Wright Motorsports, running the best lap of his career at 6.25 seconds and 223 miles per hour.

“I sold my Outlaw 10.5 operation in 2007 due to the lack of funds to keep up with the likes of [Tim] Lynch and [Gil] Mobley, but I did manage to put my old ’68 Camaro with the Fulton 706 to a 4.53 at 160 best with the nitrous motor, says Lewis “I switched over to a 498 cubic inch small block with twin 91’s but never ran the car and sold it as a roller. Then, I put my motor in Mike Lee’s Limited Street Nova and problems came about with Mike and we parted ways just after dyno runs were made, as he decided that he wanted out of racing.”

Look for this pair to make some noise up and down the East Coast, where the Radial and grudge scene has no shortage of events or close competition.
