New Pro Mod for CRT Transmission’s Steve Cannizio

[1]

Between traveling to assorted races to provide on site customer support or repairs for other racers in need and running CRT Transmissions, Steve Cannizzio hasn’t had the time he would have liked to devote to this project. A recent divorce and shop move from Zephyrhills to a better location in Clearwater near Sunshine Dragstrip further delayed the project but it’s nearly ready to hit the track now.

He took delivery of the chassis nearly three years ago and started plugging away when time allowed. Robert Coady of Category 5 Race Cars handled assorted fabrication to mount the Suncoast Race Cars [2] 68 Camaro body. Recently local racer Darren Burns has helped out with plumbing the fuel system and clear coating the air brush work done by Gary Smith [3], among other things. Darren also works at Sunshine Dragstrip doing the track prep there and other general maintenance as needed.

Gary stopped by to work some more on the art while I was there to finish the rear marker lights and bumper, as well as a custom Mighty Mouse graphic where the rear side window would be. With a few minor details left to wrap up on the car Steve says he is looking to hit the track in a week or two for shakedown runs and they are busy getting the paint finished up to debut the car at the Gearhead Performance [4] car show this coming Saturday.

The custom Glidezilla graphic and other air brush work was done by renowned artist Gary Smith.

An assortment of Auto Meter gauges fill the dash to monitor critical functions and pressures. Vacum, EGT, water temp, oil pressure, bottle pressure and of course engine RPM. Gear selection to the CRT Glidezilla trans is accomplished by a B&M shifter.

Sparky handled the wiring chores on the car for a clean, trouble free install. A MSD Digital 7 ignition provides timing and and spark control while digi set timers are used to activate the nitrous.

The Fab 9 housing was done by Robert Coady at Catagory 5 Race Cars and filled with Mark Williams components. Double bead lock wheels from Weld Racing are wrapped by Mickey Thompson 34.5 x 17 slicks. Santhuff coil over shocks provide the dampening.

Gary Smith worked from a photo of Steve’s sons on a roller coaster for the rear deck mural, Joey and Jonathon from left to right.
