It’s almost here – the 50th annual Winternationals in Pomona are just on the horizon mere weeks away. Well not only is the NHRA’s season opener event celebrating its 50th anniversary, Jegs Performance Auto Parts is as well and they’ve got some interesting developments this year to assist them in their march to the top of the NHRA points. While Jegs’ Pro Stock driver Jeg Coughlin has brought home the Wally trophy from 5 classes in his career he has yet to have an NHRA Stock Wally for the mantle. Well this year he is looking to change that as they began construction on his new Dodge Challenger for NHRA A / SA competition.
We knew the car would be badass but seeing the pictures finally fulfills our visual expectations as some spy pictures of the completed car were posted by BHRacer on Yellowbullet. Now all that’s left is to get this killer Mopar on track for some competition.

While it may seem like Pro-Stock and “Stock” racing are in two totally different leagues they both pose unique challenges for a driver and team to overcome. NHRA Stock competition’s basis is the idea to keep the cars as close to factory as possible – this means budget-wise, it is a more “user-friendly” class for someone looking to enter NHRA competition, though not cheap by any means. We’re sure there’s more to the motor build, but that info is being kept under wraps. Amazingly they were able to trim down the Challenger’s bulky 4000+ lb curb weight to 3290 per NHRA rules. They eventually may try the car out in NHRA AA / SA competition at 3100 pounds.
Part of the Drag Pak Challenger construction is the deletion of the rear spoiler, an automatic transmission is installed and out back the IRS was ditched in favor of a factory-type solid rear axle and a 4 link suspension setup that appears similar to what you’d find in a SRT-8 Jeep. The chassis and suspension work was done by John Holt Race Cars and the yellow Jegs paint we are all accustomed to seeing on their cars was done by Custom Motorsports Painting in Mansfield, Ohio. That’s all we know for now, we’ll enjoy these teaser pics until we get to see some on-track action in Pomona.
