Pro Mods are mechanical beasts that are notoriously difficult to tame. Jim Halsey and Jeff Rudolf are seasoned Pro Mod drivers with plenty of passes under their belts, but things took a bad turn for both of them at the Snowbird Outlaw Nationals. A terrible top-end crash damaged both cars and ended each racer’s weekend at Bradenton Motorsports Park.
The competition at the Snowbird Outlaw Nationals is fierce, with more than 80 of the best Pro Mods in the world trying to make a 32-car field. That means every racer is treating each run like it could be their last just to make the show.
During the second qualifier, Halsey and Rudolf rolled to the starting line with big tune-ups loaded into their rides, ready to climb the qualifying ladder. When the tree fired, they left hard and looked to be on stellar passes. Halsey’s Camaro hiked the wheels way up and pushed over the centerline, collecting some blocks. In the other lane, Rudolf’s Camaro was trucking along and making a solid lick, but after both cars crossed the finish line, things went south.
Rudolf’s Camaro made a violent right turn, crossed the track, rolled onto its roof, and struck the wall. The car then shot back across the track in front of Halsey, which forced him to get hard on the binders and make contact with the wall. While this was happening, Rudolf’s Camaro continued sliding on its roof down the track before it violently struck the wall again and came to a stop.
When the smoke, sparks, and fire cleared, both drivers were able to walk away. Rudolf is currently still in the hospital, undergoing further evaluation. We wish him the best. Check out this wild video from FloRacing that shows just how gnarly the crash was.
