Event Preview: PDRA World Finals At Virginia Motorsports Park

October 2, 2017

The 2017 PDRA season is ready to begin its final chapter at Virginia Motorsports Park October 19-21 with the PDRA World Finals. Racers will be trying to finish their season strong with a win and even a series championship if they’re lucky. You can see all the action of the PDRA World Finals live RIGHT HERE on SpeedVideo.com from Virginia Motorsports Park.

Over the course of the 2017 season, the PDRA has visited tracks all over the East Coast and even ventured into the Midwest region to bring their brand of wicked-fast drag racing to the masses. The goal for every team is to earn that number one ranking so they can add it to their car going into next year and be known as a champion.

To add some extra spice to the World Finals, the PDRA is bringing the wild Outlaw 10.5 class to Virginal Motorsports Park. This class is callable of three-second passes and always has an interesting variety of cars and combinations competing. There will be plenty of close racing when the Outlaw 10.5 cars hit the track at the World Finals all weekend long.

The Pro Boost class has turned into a two-man race for the title between the rookie Ty Tutterow and crafty veteran Jose Gonzales. Each have picked up wins this season, but Gonzales has been just a little more consistent and been able to stay one step ahead of Tutterow. At the finals, Gonzales will need to be on his game to keep the hard-charging Tutterow from picking up enough points to win the Pro Boost title.

In Pro Extreme Mike Recchia holds a narrow 101 point lead over Sweetish racer Mattias Wulcan going into the finals. Recchia has been able to win two events to build a lead, while Wulcan has kept the pressure on by going rounds at just about every race. As the World Finals progress, things could get interesting as these two racers battle it out to see who the fastest man in the PDRA is.

Pro Nitrous has seen the points melee between Tommy Franklin and Jay Cox reach a boiling point, and the World Finals will be where it gets settled. Franklin and Cox have traded the points lead at different times this year coming into the finals with each picking up wins. Now, the pressure is on to see who can close out the year strong and wear the number one in 2018 in the PDRA’s toughest class.

The action at the World Finals will also include the Extreme Pro Stock, Pro Extreme Motorcycle, Top Sportsman, Top Dragster, Extreme Outlaw 632, Pro Jr. Dragster, Top Jr Dragster, and bracket bash racing. There will also be jet cars, wheelstander, and Gasser racing to make this event one big drag racing party!
