The Powerglide transmission has been around for decades and it has been a workhorse in the drag racing community since it was introduced. You can get just about any part you want for the Powerglide from the aftermarket, and now Coan Engineering offers a valve body for this transmission in billet form with many updates for better performance.

Coan Engineering is known for creating great aftermarket parts for transmissions, so it’s no surprise they brought this billet valve body to market for the Powerglide. With the OEM castings getting harder to come by, Coan decided to take 40 years of modification knowledge and make a better valve body for the Powerglide. This new valve body offers an improved reaction time to pressure changes, a better transbrake setup time, and an updated pressure regulator.

Coan Engineering’s Jason Coan adds some more details about what makes this new billet valve body such an improvement for the Powerglide transmission.

“This valve body offers a tremendous seven pounds of weight savings over the cast unit. It has a better filter design where it’s toward the back of the pan to prevent fluid cavitation during acceleration. By going to a billet unit, we’re able to really enhance the fluid circuitry of the valve body and the timings are all enhanced that come with that. We also kept the charge circuit similar to the cast iron valve body so if a person is switching from the cast iron to our billet unit, their converter won’t act way-different.”
