History favors the bold, and Jimmy Taylor has proven that’s true. The Tennessee native currently holds the quarter-mile record for a full-bodied doorslammer, and he’s not finished rewriting the history books.
Although Taylor hasn’t been competing at drag racing’s highest levels for very long, he’s already made a significant impact on the sport. After getting his first taste of fast race cars, he was hooked.
Jack Green first put Taylor behind the wheel of “The Warbird,” a move that led to a series of blistering three-second passes in Radial vs. The World competition and launched his career in professional drag racing.
Through his friendship with Jerry and Daryl Bird, Taylor was also given the opportunity to compete in the Street Outlaws No Prep Kings series. That experience provided valuable seat time in a Pro Mod and fueled an even greater appetite for drag racing.
Taylor’s career reached another level when he teamed up with Carl Stevens of Extreme Racing Engines. Their partnership sparked an ambitious goal: becoming the first driver to run a four-second quarter-mile pass in a full-bodied doorslammer.
While Taylor hasn’t yet recorded that historic four-second run, he and Stevens are preparing for another shot at the record in the near future.
