Seasoned motorcycle drag racer Frank Stotz wasn’t the first Pro Street Motorcycle rider to break into the six-second zone, but that certainly doesn’t diminish the gratification of accomplishing such an elusive feat aboard a two-wheeled, bucking bull without wheelie bars.
During the Manufacturers Cup Finals held at the South Georgia Motorsports Park in Cecil, Ga. over the weekend, the Schaumburgh, Illinois native, who is just 26 years old but already has some 18 years of riding experience under his belt, became just the second rider in the history of the Pro Street category to record a six-second lap aboard his Honda CBR 1000RR street bike, rocketing to a 6.981 elapsed time at 199.35 miles per hour.. In doing so, Stotz also became the first turbocharged motorcycle to eclipse the six-second barrier.
Back in April at the Manufacturers Cup spring event in Cecil, Stotz shocked the motorcycle drag racing world when he clocked a 7.10 at 199 miles per hour and appeared destined to become the first Pro Street bike into the sixes. But jut a few short months later, Ryan Schnitz rode into the record books with the first six-second pass in Maryland. Between the spring and fall Georgia events, the fuel for which the Stotz Racing motorcycle burned was outlawed, forcing Frank and father Kent to switch fuel brands. Following months of testing, their one and only goal in South Georgia last weekend was to silence their critics and post a “six” on the boards.
“This is a huge accomplishment,” said Frank. “There’s really no words to explain it, but me and my dad have been working a lot for this, so it means a lot.”
Doug Ray and the team at DRAGBIKE Live were on hand in Georgia to capture Stotzs’ impressive run and he and his father’s throughts on the accomplishments, which they’ve shared with us here on DRAGZINE.
