David Reese and the crew at Reese Brothers Race Cars burn through a whole lot of TIG rod each week as they create astounding racecars. The vehicles that come out of Reese’s shop have set records and won countless rounds of racing. The famed “El Diablo” 1967 Camaro Reese once built is now part of his stable again, and has undergone numerous updates, including a new name.
Reese is a firm believer in showing what your products are capable of at the track, because nothing speaks louder about a car’s ability than winning. When “El Diablo” first hit the track, the car turned a lot of heads thanks to its amazing looks…then it really got people’s attention with how well it ran. Reese eventually sold the car to Ron Green, who went on to set the Pro 275 record with the car.
“El Diablo” found its way back to Reese Brothers Race Cars for an engine swap, but the owner decided he wanted to sell the car. Reese, who didn’t have a racecar of his own, decided to purchase the car back and renamed it “OG.” The Camaro was stripped totally down, was rewired, and was outfitted with the small-block HEMI combination that Reese ran in Radial versus The World for a couple of seasons with great success.
“Getting the car back after a few years of building cars you can tell it’s one of our first builds. Our newer builds are much better, so I wanted to incorporate our new techniques into “OG.” We didn’t’ change anything structurally, but we updated where things are mounted to match how we do it now,” Reese says.
Check out the video Reese shot where he goes into more detail about the “OG” build and what his plans are for the Camaro.
