As a Nova owner, this video hurts. First of all, a diesel?! Okay, different strokes for different folks. Well, since Russ Wullenwabers’ Nova features a Duramax diesel combination, maybe that’s a poor choice of words, but it’s different, and sometimes ‘different’ is a good thing.
The biggest reason this video hurts is that driver Idaho Rob Coddens loses the car, and smacks the wall just past the finish line. Coddens has a history of diesel-powered drag vehicles, including trucks. Building fast diesel-powered vehicles is for what Coddens is known. In 2007, he started Adrenaline Truck Performance (ATP Trucks) to blend hobby with business. He had built up such a name that it lead him to start ATP Trucks.
In this video, though, it shows not every day is a good one for Coddens. At the recent Pacific Coast Diesel Nationals, held at Woodburn Drag Strip in Woodburn, Oregon, Coddens’ was on a troubled pass from the beginning. He pedaled it just after the launch when the car headed for the wall, but he gathered it up, straightening out the car to still make a respectable pass. However, down track the troubles came back, and Coddens was unable to make corrections before coming into contact with the wall. Thankfully, he was okay, but the Nova didn’t fare as well.
Hopefully, Wullenwaber and Coddens can straighten out the Nova, and get back in action soon. But then again, Coddens is known to race whatever he can get his hands on, so even if it’s not this Nova, we’re sure he’ll be at the track in something very soon.

With a nickname like Idaho Rob, it’s a natural Coddens loves the outdoors. This image portrays what Coddens is all about away from the track.
