James “Doc” Love Unveils His New Screw-Blown NPK Ride “Heavy Metal”

James “Doc” Love no prep kings

Street Outlaws fan-favorite James “Doc” Love is bringing some serious firepower to the 2022 No Prep Kings (NPK) points series. Doc recently revealed on social media that he purchased Adam Flamholc’s 1974 Nova to use as his primary ride on the NPK tour this year.

The last couple of seasons have been rough for Doc after he wrecked his beloved 1970 “Street Beast” Monte Carlo. He determined that the Street Beast was a total loss, so he needed to find another vehicle going forward. After some serious thrashing, Doc debuted his fourth-generation Firebird known as “Stunt Double” at the National Trail Raceway during the first NPK event of 2021.

While he eventually got a handle on Stunt Double, it was clear the car just didn’t have enough to compete with the fastest NPK teams. To remedy this issue, Doc has picked up Flamholc’s Chris Duncan Race Cars-built Nova; he also plans on bringing Flamholc onboard with his team along with Pro Mod racer Kevin McCurdy to help tune the car this season.

The Nova will now go by the name “Heavy Metal” with Doc behind the wheel. In one of his Facebook videos about the car, he woke of the large adjustment he needs to make to get used to driving the Nova. Doc has already been out testing with the Nova at Bradenton Motorsports Park in preparation for the pending NPK season. Thus far he’s pleased with how the car has performed, has loved the driving experience, and is ready to turn the wick up on “Heavy Metal.”

Only the 2nd time behind a badass screw blown Hemi when it was running. Made the trip!!!! All I can say is “man what a rush” that blower never quits pullin. Even tho that pass was far from “set on kill” she still yanked the front wheels on the 1-2 shift. Made 2 passes. Good rolling burnouts, and did not mess up the starting line procedures. Pushed all the buttons and flipped all switches correctly. Gonna start turning it up on Mondays test session. Then testing again on Tuesday if needed, then bringing her back home to the 405 to make her mine.
