Sometimes you have to sell a race car for one reason or another and it just doesn’t feel right letting that ride go. There are some racers who get lucky and get the chance to buy back an old ride, and that’s exactly what Jason Flores has done. Flores has partnered with Jason Maldonado to bring back his Mustang known as “Muttley” and they’re bringing it to Outlaw Armageddon.

A few years ago Flores sold his 1992 Mustang LX to a good friend who campaigned the car under the name of “Bad Intentions”. Flores continued to run his shop, Straightline Performance, but when the opportunity arose to purchase the car he jumped on it.

“Jason and I partnered up to buy the car for many different reasons. Ray, my friend who purchased the car, really took it to a whole new level when he owned it. The car was very competitive while he was driving it. Last year Ray even made it to the semi-final round at Outlaw Armageddon in the small-tire class,” Flores explains.

While Ray owned the car he added a nasty big-block Chevy to provide power from Morgan & Son Racing Engines. The big Chevy feeds on three stages of nitrous courtesy of Induction Solutions. Behind the engine, Ray added a stout TH400 transmission from M&M Transmission.

Outlaw Armageddon is one of the toughest no-prep events a racer can enter — there are teams from all over the United States that travel to Thunder Valley to prove they are the fastest, so Flores and his team know they have to be ready.

“We absolutely have to be on our A-game for this event. There’s a lot of stuff to do in between rounds on a nitrous car, we all have our jobs in between rounds and it takes all of us working in sync to be successful. Consistency is what it is going to take to be competitive at Outlaw Armageddon. We need to focus on being efficient with power application every pass without blowing the tires off. There are a lot of killers at this race and we certainly have what it takes to run with them,” Flores says.
