This insane lime green Mustang may be new to some, but those who follow the modular motor world are likely familiar with Justin Cyrnek’s Green Goblin. This car began it’s journey as a streetable 9-second brute, then found itself setting the Coyote-powered record at 7.92, barely losing the race to be the first of it’s kind in the 7-second zone. Now, the car has been overhauled and primed for X275 duty, thanks to the skilled hands of Larry Jeffers and a carefully selected team.
According to Cyrnek, it was Jim Robbins who suggested Jeffers for the overhaul, leading the way into the collaborative effort that produced this retina-searing hot rod. The heart of the beast is a Modular Motorsports Racing 351X, powerplant that is certainly not the norm for X275 competition. However, the 351X has been proven to reliably produce over 3,000 horsepower in twin turbo configuration, so with some tuning magic from Matt Bell of Redline Motorsports, expect the X-legal single turbo setup to run up front very quickly.
Along with the necessary chassis and roll cage updates, Jeffers handled the hot- and cold-side fabrication for the turbo system. Backing the engine is a custom two speed Proformance Racing Transmissions TH400 tranny and a 9-inch rear end fabbed by Jeffers. Wiring was handled by Jim Robbins, and Bell will utilize Holley’s EFI to dial in the tune.
While jumping into the world of X275 is certainly not to be taken lightly, it’s evident from the excellent component choices and hand-picked experts contributing to the build that Cyrnek intends to make a splash in the class. “It just isn’t enough to go 4.50’s,” Justin says, indicating that he knows it will take 4.40’s to be competitive and 30’s to really turn heads in X275, as if the intense lime green paint wouldn’t do that on its own!
