Khalid Al-Balooshi has always been a tough competitor in the E3 Spark Plugs NHRA Pro Mod class and it looks like he’s about to make things more difficult on the competition with a switch to boost. Jerry Bickel Race Cars released shots of Al-Balooshi’s brand new Bahrain 1 sponsored 2019 Camaro that he just took delivery of and he’s ready to start putting laps in on the fresh pipe.
The move to a twin-turbo combination shouldn’t be much of a shock considering Al-Balooshi’s teammate Rickie Smith moved to boost as his power-adder of choice before the start of the 2019 season. Al-Balooshi has done well behind the wheel of a Pro Mod winning multiple races all over the world and securing his own NHRA Pro Mod title in 2011. The move to boost comes at a good time for Al-Balooshi as Smith is just starting to get his turbo program on track and had his best performance yet this past weekend at the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals with a runner up finish.
The new Camaro rolled out of Bickel’s shop with a Pro Line Racing Engines Hemi under the hood just like Smith’s Mustang with boost coming from a pair of Precision turbos. Tuning the FuelTech FT600 ECU on the Camaro will be Steve Petty from Pro Line who is also helping tune Smith’s Mustang. So far this season Smith has been chipping away at the performance of this new engine and power-adder package at each event with the help of Petty. With all of this data already collected Al-Balooshi should be able to jump right into the mix of the Pro Mod class this weekend at Atlanta during the Southern Nationals.
